ABSTRACT
The
paper was on innovative technique for bridging gender gap in student’s
mathematics achievement: implication for teaching mensuration in senior
secondary school. The concept of mathematics and issues on gender gap was
discussed as way of introduction. Innovation and mensuration was defined as the
implementation of the new and mensuration as the process of mathematical rules
for finding lengths, areas and volumes of shapes or objects. The paper further
discussed the need of innovations and innovations in teaching mathematics which
was diversified in terms of methods, pedagogic resources and mastery learning
strategy used in teaching-learning process. Some examples were demonstrated to
show some innovative technique used in teaching mensuration at senior secondary
school level. Recommendations made among others is that students should be
involved in the process of learning by taking them beyond the process of
listening to that of thinking, reasoning and doing.
INTRODUCTION

subject. It is a human activity involving the solution of problematic situations
and especially in finding the responses or solution to these external and
internal problems. Okebukola (1992) opined that mathematics is referred as a
