ABSTRACT
The research design was correlational survey carried out to investigate the correlation between senior secondary two (SS2) students achievement in English Language and their achievement in Mathematics in Langtang North Local Government area of Plateau State. The study made use of 398 students from 7 schools of the 17 schools using systematic sampling technique. Two research questions were asked and 2 null hypotheses were made. Literature was reviewed and achievement test in English Language and Mathematics were conducted. Reliability coefficients of 0.99 for English language achievement test and 0.98 for Mathematics achievement were obtained using Kuder Richardson KR21 analysis from the pilot study. Data were analyzed using means scores and Pearson product correlation coefficient. The results showed a significant relationship in the level of achievement in English Language and Mathematics between males and females and between urban schools and rural schools. The calculated correlation coefficients showed positive significant relationship between students’ achievement in English Languaged and Mathematics. Schools location was not significant in students’ achievement in English Language and Mathematics. The 2 null hypotheses were however rejected because analyzed data showed positive relationships in the students’ achievement in English language and Mathematics. Recommendations were made for school authorities, parents, teachers and government to create awareness for students on the need to be serious with their English Language study so as to facilitate high achievement in Mathematics which will lead Nigeria to the attainment of a strong technological base.

INTRODUCTION
Mathematics is a way of describing relationship between members and other measurable quantities. Its concept came about as a result of man’s desire surmount the prevalent challenges of life that stared him in the face with the aim of bringing about an improved standard of living (Obodo, 2000). In Langtang North, students speak the native language in addition to the official school language which is the English Language. Also the native Taroh Language is used in teaching and learning of concepts published in English language. This bilingual teaching and learning may bring about low achievement in English language and mathematics at the secondary schools level. Also secondary schools in Langtang North LGA are sited in urban and rural areas. Odili (2006) in stressing the relevance of mathematics to the development of  nation opined that development is the capacity of a nation to apply technology for the exploitation relies greatly on mathematics for laying the foundation for political, governmental, military civility, science and technological advancement, socio-cultural and environmental peace. According to Kulbir (2006), Mathematics brings about the practical value of life; that counting, notation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, weighting, measuring, selling, buying and many are simple and fundamental process of Mathematics.
